Hello all,

I wonder if you or anyone you know are in my same situation.  I got out of school 4 years ago with accounting background.  Worked in accounting for 2 years, opened my business for 2 years.  Sold it recently.  I am currently unemployed.

Looking at the news about the bad job market, I wonder if I should take this time and study and (hopefully) pass the CPA OR should I look for a job.  I do have some savings to live for the next 12-18 months.  Please share your thoughts....

Thanks.

CPA hands down... especially since you have money to support yourself. You can pass the CPA in 6 months if done correctly with the amount of time on your hands.

GottaPassCPA, you can do both. :-) I worked full-time and studied for the CPA exam. It wasn't particularly difficult, unless, of course, you have kids who require a lot of time.

I have a toddler and a newborn and passed the exam working fulltime.  Just barely passed each test though.  I also failed the exam 5 times when it was paper and pencil.  Just have to have good time management skills and a good support team!

tb7025, wow, how did you do it with the kids? Nanny and/or daycare?

Hey lelik, my wife and I both work fulltime so the kids had day care 2 days a week and are at my mother-in-laws the other three days.  The most credit goes to my wife...  I would come home each night, have a quick dinner and then hit the home office for 2-3 hours a night to study while she took care of the kids and cleanup.  The big part was going to the library on Saturday and Sunday for the day to study while the kids spent the day with mom....  Finally, I would take Thursday and Friday off and spend the 2 days at the library studying all day before the exam on Saturday!!!  Never want to do it again!  Talk about having no life!

Working a 9-5 job helps also!
